Tips To Keep Hard Surfaces Clean | Sanitary Rug Cleaners Birmingham AL

Posted by on Jun 23, 2016 in Blog | Comments Off on Tips To Keep Hard Surfaces Clean | Sanitary Rug Cleaners Birmingham AL

hard surface cleaning-Regular vacuuming and cleaning. Some surfaces don’t always appear to need cleaning, but assume they do. As sure as a dust settles on a windowsill, so it does on the floors and on tile and grout.

-At entry points for areas with hard surfaces, place entry mats for soil and moisture removal. The less brought in, the less to clean.

-Clean up spills as they occur. The longer a spill sits on the tile, the higher the likelihood that it will become a stain. Grout is especially prone to staining, since it is porous and typically light in color. If you accidentally spill food onto the tile in your kitchen, wipe it up before it becomes permanent.

-After performing a wet maintenance, open windows or utilize fans to get air circulating. The faster it dries the better the results and less chance for rapid re-soiling. Also, keep shower times to a minimum. Same as with cleaning, the extra moisture is the perfect environment for mildew and mold to thrive.

-If area rugs are used to decorate interior hard surfaces, it is recommended that they are professionally cleaned along with the floors under them on a regular basis.

-Chairs and tables on hard surface areas could cause serious damage to floors if the legs and corners are not protected. Teflon or felt can be used to prevent abrasive damage caused by the furniture.

-Clean and rinse your floors often, once per month in low traffic areas and at least weekly in high traffic or kitchen areas. Rinse with plain water unless using the recommended cleaner/ protector product mentioned earlier.

-Allow dwell time for stubborn spots and stains. Cleaning products are not magic. The longer they sit on that stubborn spot the better they work. Extra rinsing may be needed after the stain is removed. If a stain appears permanent, DON’T PANIC, call the hard surface professionals at Oriental Rug Cleaning Studio by Stanley Steemer.

5 Ways To Get Your Home Ready For Summer | Rug Cleaning Charleston and Conway SC

Posted by on May 25, 2016 in Blog | Comments Off on 5 Ways To Get Your Home Ready For Summer | Rug Cleaning Charleston and Conway SC

rug cleaningOnce spring cleaning is done, you’ve probably put the bleach away and your rugs have been cleaned by a professional rug cleaner. Now that the temperature is rising, it’s time to get the home ready to enjoy in warm weather!

1) Get a professional tune up on your air conditioning unit(s) at least once a year. The last thing you want is for your A/C to go out when those high temperatures hit. A professional can check for damage or leaks and make sure your equipment is running as efficiently as possible. Make sure clean filters are installed in your heating or cooling systems also.

2) Clean your ceiling and portable fans for maximum efficiency and minimum dust. Turn off your fans when they are not in use and when you leave the house.

3) Replace heavy curtains with a lighter material. Consider window tinting or plantings that can create more shade on areas that get the most sun.

4) Clean your windows inside and out, and check for any damage to the glass. Rinse window screens, and check for damage. Replace weather stripping if necessary. Keep the cool air in and the hot air out!

5) Check all of your outside hoses for leaks and repair or replace, if necessary. Adjust sprinklers and watering time. This is a good time to make sure you don’t have any sprinkler leaks and to reposition sprinkler heads to make sure you are not wasting water on walls, sidewalks, or the driveway. During the summer the best time to water is in the late evening, after the sun has gone down, or early morning, when the air is the most cool.

What Pets Bring Into Our Homes and Leave On Our Carpets and Rugs

Posted by on May 11, 2016 in Blog | Comments Off on What Pets Bring Into Our Homes and Leave On Our Carpets and Rugs

pets on rugsWe all love our pets, but do you know what they bring into your home?

Saliva: A dog has at Least 20 species of bacteria in its mouth. All of these bacteria are left behind when your pet slobbers on your upholstery, rugs and carpets.
Pet waste: There are 20 million fecal coliform bacteria in a single gram of pet waste – urine or feces! These bacteria remain on carpets and rugs even after you clean up the waste.
Dander: An estimated 30 million Americans are allergic to animals with pet dander being the main cause! Simply vacuuming may not get rid of all of the allergens.
Dirt: Studies show that dirt carries many different forms of bacteria and a square foot of carpet can harbor up to 1 pound of dirt! Our cleaning system will deep clean your carpets and rugs, removing the places bacteria can hide.

The EPA recommends that homes with pets have their rugs and carpets professionally cleaned every 3 to 6 months for the most effective cleaning and removal of pet hair, odors, dander, and dirt or soil.

Your Home’s Indoor Air Quality | Rug, Leather, Hardwood Floor and Tile Cleaning, plus Air Ducts!

Posted by on Apr 6, 2016 in Blog | Comments Off on Your Home’s Indoor Air Quality | Rug, Leather, Hardwood Floor and Tile Cleaning, plus Air Ducts!

The indoor air quality in your home may be affecting your health and the health of your family members. Being that, the average time a person spends indoors is 90% and indoor air quality is much worse than outdoor air quality these days. Regular housecleaning can help improve your home’s air quality. Rug, leather, hardwood floor and tile cleaning are all good examples of what can help improve indoor air quality, as they act as natural air filters and can harbor mold so they must be kept clean. Not to mention a good air duct cleaning, to start right from the source of your home’s air circulation!

It’s Time For Spring Cleaning! | Treat Your Rugs And Hardwood Floors To A Professional Clean

Posted by on Mar 23, 2016 in Blog | Comments Off on It’s Time For Spring Cleaning! | Treat Your Rugs And Hardwood Floors To A Professional Clean

rug cleaningSpring cleaning is a tradition that allows us to freshen up our homes and get a head start on the hectic seasons of spring and summer. It is an opportunity to throw open the windows, let some fresh air in, and make our homes clean, happy and efficient spaces. The tips below outline basic techniques that will help you clean almost every surface in your home.

Dust Your Home Thoroughly: This includes hard-to-reach places, such as the tops of ceiling fans, bookshelves and cabinets. Always work from the top of a room down.

Wipe Walls and Trim: Use a vacuum to remove dust and then wipe walls and trim with a microfiber cloth dampened with water and mild dishwashing liquid. Use a solvent-free degreaser to work on stubborn spots, especially those in the kitchen.

Wash Window Screens: Using warm water and a mild dishwashing liquid, scrub each screen with a brush; rinse thoroughly.

Work Window Treatments: Wipe wooden blinds with a damp cloth; warm water mixed with a mild dishwashing liquid is safe for metal and vinyl blinds.

Clean Upholstered Furnishings: Take cushions outside and gently beat them by hand to remove dust. Use a vacuum’s upholstery and crevice tools to clean under seat cushions. This will prep also the fabric for a professional upholstery cleaning.

Have Hard Surfaces Cleaned: Tile, stone, and grout will eventually deteriorate without proper maintenance. Using a professional will ensure that you are taking all the right steps when cleaning tile & stone and using only the best products to protect your investment by keeping it properly maintained and attractive.

Carpet and Rug Cleaning: Leave this task to the professionals. Improper cleaning can cause mold and damage that cannot be undone. A professional carpet and rug cleaning will also save time for the other tasks at hand.

Wax Wooden Furniture: Wipe surfaces with a soft cloth dampened with water and mild dishwashing liquid. Apply paste wax, such as Butcher’s wax, a few feet at a time with a cotton rag folded into a square pad. Let wax dry; buff with a clean cloth.

Clean Hardwood Floors: Hardwood floors become dull and dirty over time just like carpet. A professional cleaning will bring back the shine and extend the life of your floors.

Ensure Fire Safety: Change batteries in smoke detectors (this should be done twice a year), and make sure units are free of dust. Teach everyone in your household how to use a fire extinguisher, and review escape plans.

Stanley Steemer cares for the finest to the most basic rugs from around the world. We will pick-up and bring your rugs back to our special cleaning facility where they will go through our thorough cleaning process for maximum soil and spot removal.

How to Care for your Oriental Rug

Posted by on Feb 24, 2016 in Blog | Comments Off on How to Care for your Oriental Rug

Rotation – To insure even wear, your rug should be rotated once a year. Depending on the traffic, the rotation may vary from six months to two years.
Vacuuming – Oriental rugs, like most carpeting, should be vacuumed on a regular basis to remove dirt and restore life to the fibers. Be sure not to vacuum the fringe with your beater bar! Use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum.
Padding – A quality pad used under your rug helps protect it from dirt, wear and slippage.
Washing – Having your Heirloom Oriental rug professionally cleaned will ensure it is done properly and with care to protect your investment.
